Installation instructions
We provide a detailed installation manual and a step-by-step video tutorial to guide you how to remove the original Mercedes SLK R171 radio. By following this video, you can also find if your car has a fiber optic amplifier or not. If your radio plug comes with 8 speaker wires, that means your car does not have a fiber optic amp.
Most users can complete the installation easily by following our guide. Besides, if you or your installer still have questions while installing, we can provide online support step by step.
For an SLK 171 with the command audio unit, all your connections are located on the passenger side under the front foot rest area. You will need to pull back the carpet and remove the foot rest support bracket to get to the gateway command unit. From there you will connect the long wiring harness by removing the connections from the gateway command unit. This is also where the radio antenna connection is located.

For Mercedes Benz SLK R171 has a fiber optic amplifier:
If your car has a fiber optic amp, you need to use our long cable to connect your 4 car door speakers directly and by pass the fiber optic amp, and our unit has 4x45w amplifier built-in. This long cable is optional. With this long cable, you can get sound from 4 car door speakers. You can also connect our unit(with 4 chanels RCA output) with an aftermarket amplifier.
If you want to use the factory fiber optic amplifier, you can select the fiber optic decoder box which is optional.

In order to check if your slk r171 has a fiber optic amp or not, you can try to remove the oem radio, check the plug behind the radio. If there’s just a fiber optical plug not a big square plug, that means your car has a fiber optic amp.
